Crafting the Key Visual for a High Jewelry Collection
When Bulgari reached out to collaborate on the key visual for their Mediterranea collection, it was a thrilling opportunity. Bulgari is a legendary brand with deep Mediterranean roots. The founder, Sotirio Bulgari (Σωτήριος Βούλγαρης), hailed from Thesprotia, Greece—the same region my family comes from. As a designer who studied in Italy and now lives in Paphos, Cyprus, where I look out at the Mediterranean every day, the sea is part of my culture, identity, and inspiration.
The Mediterranea collection, however, wasn’t limited to the traditional Mediterranean borders. For Bulgari, this collection celebrated the spirit of the Mediterranean across three continents—bringing together elements from Greece, Spain, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, and Rome, but also drawing parallels with influences from the Far East. This project was about building bridges, finding connections, and celebrating the Mediterranean’s vast cultural landscape.
Bulgari’s jewelry is more than decoration; it’s art. I spent hours admiring the original designs, feeling privileged to work with pieces that radiate such craftsmanship and history. The creative journey was intense and rewarding. I explored multiple concepts—from animals and letters to waveforms and unique textures—but ultimately, nothing captured the essence of the Mediterranea better than the sun. This final symbol became the heart of the mosaic, crafted with meticulous detail over countless hours.
The artwork was then adapted by Bulgari’s talented design team for a range of applications, from invitations and books to immense banners, store interiors, and intricate window displays. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing my mosaic reimagined in kaleidoscopic forms and new compositions that beautifully honor the original piece.
This is my Mediterranea.
Grazie/Ευχαριστώ, Bvlgari!
Obviously the final key visual hasn't been developed overnight. We worked more than 2 months withe the creative team in Rome to arrive at the right result. Here are just some of the early attempt.
Many thanks to Giorgia Palazzo, Giordana Di Biagio, Federica Mandetta, Marco Bo and everyone at Bvlgari.
